Stenbukt is is situated next to Samuelsundet, a fantastic place for deep sea fishing  Reparing fishing gear at the kitchen table.  Cleaning fish at the boat house.   Dog teams start out - heading North Cape

STENBUKT FISH LODGE (Stonebay) is located in a remote bay right on the edge of the Arctic Ocean - no trees - no road, - no neighbours. The cosy and charming house makes you feel at home. A place to get away from it all. From the living room there is a fantastic view looking straight north into the midnight sun. Sound and smell of the sea - just birds, whales, seals, otters and lots of fish in the sea and in the lakes around. For fishing is this place a "eldorado", cod fishing at sea, trout fishing in the lakes or salmon fishing in the river near by. There is a motorboat for your disposal.

A beautiful place for all seasons, both summer, autumn and winter. In the summer a good setting for making day excursions in the area, whether it be to Hammerfest, to North Cape or out to explore the nearby islands or just walking in the mountains. In the winter a good setting for making winter activities as skiing, snow shoeing, ice-fishing and dog sledding. There are three bedrooms 7 - 10 beds, large sitting room, sauna and a big terrace around the house.

This winter we are offering tours to Stenbukt by dog team and during summer it is also available for fishing groups. Self service or alternativ with full board and lodge incl. guide / house keeper.

ABOUT US

Sven Sven Engholm is 11 time winner of Europe's longest sled dog race, the "Finnmarksløpet - 1000 km. He is a top ten finisher in Iditarod - a 1800 km race in Alaska. He is an experienced outdoor guide and has also lead several expeditions to Spitsbergen, Greenland and across Siberia. Thanks to his university studies in natural geography, it is a pleasure for him to explain the many geographical and other natural phenomena's while leading a tour.

"The desire to do something meaningful in life brought me to Karasjok. I had a longing within me for untouched nature. Based upon my own feelings for the area - the exotic light, the darkness and the great plateau - I developed a product which is bearing fruit. I built up to what we have today which has, with the years, become the success I had hoped for when I started 1979.  Once infected with the sled dog mushing virus, there is no cure, there is only trail!”

ChristelChristel Finne has background from mountain climbing, alpine and cross country skiing, touring with ski sail and pulka. Horse riding guide. Several years full time working guide on overnight tours/expeditions with sled dogs on the Finnmark plateau.

"The freedom of being in nature, at all seasons with sled dogs gives me a feeling of life and when I came north - I got fascinated by the contrasts in the seasons. The bright summer nights with midnight sun and the arctic winter's unique tranquillity with Northern lights. With my background knowledge and skills, I have joined in developing this fantastic place. And I enjoy very much when I can share all this with others."

Thomas Marhaug: North-Norwegian with a Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, but with little patience for academic life. Has a background from an Outdoors-study at Levanger, Trøndelag, and 1 year as an intern at an Outdoors-class at a Folk High School. Loves dogs and nature, and likes a colder climate better than a warm one.

It’s outdoors, in nature, that you really get to know people. Out here, you have to be yourself, not a constructed personality based on how society wants to see you. To use a cliché, in nature I can be free.”

WHO PARTICIPATES?

My Husky tours are ideal winter holidays for those who love wild and unspoilt places and adventure.
The tour are designed to be suitable for experienced mushers and for first-timers. The safaris vary in their physical demands.
On our tours are we depended just upon ourselves, not upon snow machines, ATV or any other remedies. We try to make it as intimate as possible to ride a dogsled.  Our experience is that this is the only way to connect human, dog and nature to one whole.

Most participants are rather adventurous people who relish the chance to learn new skills and like to live life to the fullest. Neither age nor gender are barriers - all have equal qualifications for handling the dogsleds. Technique which will be taught to all participants and not physical fitness is a requirement for enjoying dog mushing. A reasonable level of fitness, concentration and a sense of balance are the key attributes needed.
It is not required to be a passionate dog-lover to gain respect and admiration for these hard working dogs and their qualities. The guides spend time teaching those new to the sport. As all ‘repeaters’ who come back to "mush" the dogs verify; the dogs really do become your best friends.
