The sled dogs become excellent pack-dogs on this trekking tour. You are responsible for one dog which carry 7 - 10 kg of your luggage. Sleeping bag, sleeping mat and your clothing, you have to carry in your own rucksack. The tour goes mostly NOT on paths. Daily hiking distances, about 7 -12 km in fairly easy wilderness terrain but it requires normal good physical fitness. Some great fishing can be done in the numerous lakes and streams. Total 4 days hiking and 3 nights in a "lavvu" (a Sámi tent) with an open fire. Thanks to the guides experience and knowhow, you can learn about natural phenomena, wilderness life and survival techniques. The tour is designed for participants that are rather adventurous people who relish the chance to learn new skills. Like to live life to the fullest and broaden their horizons. These are people who are looking for gold grains on their journey. Neither age nor gender are barriers. Ideal for those who love wild and unspoilt places and adventure. It is an extraordinary escape for the unique minded.
Detail programme
Day 1. Program start with dinner 19.00. The guide will have briefing regarding the tour.
Day 2. The morning is spent provision our equipment and your guide are learning you the basics of handling pack dogs. Rest of the day is to your own disposition for interesting activities. You are welcome to join in our daily life. Sled dogs may be in training (during days when it’s not too warm). Puppies learning to socialize and have their daily 1 hour walk (free running) in the woods and by the river that you can participate in. A smal hiking tour can be ventured upon alone if desired in the nearby countryside. It is beautiful and unspoiled landscape just out from the door step.
Local handicrafts and shops can be found at the local Sámi village. The National Sámi Museum, guided tour at Norwegian Sami parliament, Sami art gallery, Sápmi theme park and the local knife smith are also worth visiting.
Day 3. Once your personal affects have been packed properly, we are off. We are hiking through birch forest, crossing small streams and along lakes. It is a fascinating landscape where your view is endless. In the evening we will stop for the night at a lake, that hopefully give us fresh fish for dinner. We spend the night in a "lavvu" (traditional sami tent) with open fire.
Day 4. The tour continues. This area is a important winter pasture for reindeers. Some reindeer herders are in the area during winter time but now they are on the coast. We end the night in beautiful birch forest. Here we will spend the following two nights. The guide will be setting out fishing nets.
Day5.In the morning, the nets will be drawn with hopefully many fish that will be cleaned, salted and smoked over the open fire in the "lavvo". A daytrip will be made to explore the nearby countryside. Thanks to the guides experience and know how, you can learn about natural phenomena, wilderness life and survival techniques.
Day 6. Hiking along lakes in beautiful and unspoiled landscape to the road. It will be transport by coach back to Engholm Husky Lodge. Shower and sauna is waiting for us and we end the tour gathered in the warm atmosphere to have a farewell dinner.
Day 7. The program end at breakfast.
